Understanding Release of Results

At some point on the first Thursday of the holidays, you should get an email from [email protected]. This email will include which term the marks are for, your zID, and the degree you’re enrolled in. If any of these details don’t match what you expect or if you don't get an email, contact [email protected] as soon as possible.

Check that all your results make sense when compared to your pre-exam marks. Also ensure that your term WAM equals the weighted sum of the results column, divided by the number EFT units you took.

If you don’t see a number, check the 2 letter combination against the list here. PE, LE, RC, or WC usually mean that the course staff haven’t submitted all your assessments for that course to the uni. You should contact the course convenor as soon as possible.

WD, RD, NC, AF, AS, CN, or EC all warrant you following up with the Nucleus as soon as possible.

I’ve failed a course. What now?

Believe it or not, you’re not alone. On average, 39.5% of students fail at least 1 uni course in their degree (with some programs being as high as 52%). Take some time to consider your next steps, and work through the emotional aspect. Consider contacting UNSW Psychology & Wellness. Their team specialises in student mental health care, and can likely help you through the process. Other general support services can be accessed here: https://www.noiseatunsw.com/support/.

If you think something has been marked incorrectly, you have 5 days from release of results (or the assessment deadline/exam end if you receive the marks beforehand) to request a re-mark. This can’t just be vibes-based, you need to be able to prove that your assessment was marked incorrectly. Note that the course authority may decide not to remark your task, and your marks may actually go down if the remark is harsher than your original grade.

In extreme cases, you might be entitled to fee remission, where the uni refunds you the cost of the course (or refunds it to your HECS in the case of CSP domestic students). While you have up to 12 months to apply, there’s also an expected 90 day processing time, and fee remissions are only provided in extreme circumstances (such as a medical or family emergency that prevented you from completing a major assessable task/exam).

In general though, you may need to re-enrol in the course in a later term, or attempt it over the Summer term. Contact the Academic Skills team for more information.

Remember, your grades don’t define who you are. Best of luck for everyone!
